My Story

I am Isabel Chau, and I create art in many mediums. I mostly do traditional art, but I am learning to do digital.

I was born in Texas but moved to Tennessee and Illinois in later years. Growing up in a Vietnamese household, I learn a lot about the culture and language from my parents and eventually get exposed to a variety of other cultures I experienced in the states I have lived in. At a young age, I developed an interest in art when I first drew many pictures of different things like cats, animated characters, and more. As I kept drawing, I began to use some inspiration by the influences from everything I was exposed to.

While I was in high school, I was hesitant to do anything related to art as my career due to the pressure and high standards from my parents. By the time I was accepted into Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, I majored in Computer Science but later changed to Communication Design after finding out that coding is not for me. From there, I continue to learn more about using Adobe programs for graphic design while experimenting with a variety of mediums like sculpture and printmaking to expand my horizons. Currently, I am pursuing a BA degree in Communication Design.
